Washtenaw County, Michigan CEASEFIRE resolution passed on January 17, 2024

RESOLUTION DENOUNCING RISING HATE AND DISCRIMINATION IN WASHTENAW COUNTY AND CALLING FOR A LASTING BILATERAL CEASEFIRE IN GAZA AND ISRAEL WASHTENAW COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners expresses its unwavering support for all Arab, Israeli, Palestinian, Jewish, Muslim, and all other members of the community who are impacted, each of whom has the right to learn, work, worship, gather, advocate, mourn, and celebrate free from intimidation, harassment, doxxing, and fear of violence;


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners condemns all forms of anti-Arab racism, anti-Palestinian racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, and discrimination against any individual based on personal background whether Israeli or Palestinian;


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners calls for an immediate lasting bilateral ceasefire, release of all hostages, and unrestricted humanitarian aid at the levels recommended by the United Nations for the Palestinian people;


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners supports the Washtenaw County Sheriff and the Washtenaw County Prosecutors' commitment to investigate and prosecute hate crimes in Washtenaw County;


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners appreciates and uplifts Congresswoman Debbie Dingell’s November 29th, 2023, statement “Dingell Statement on Combating Rising Hate in U.S., Calling for Release of All Hostages and
Bilateral Ceasefire in Gaza and Israel;”


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners directs the County Clerk to send a copy of this resolution to Congresswoman Dingell, Senator Peters, and Senator Stabenow.
