East Orange, New Jersey passed a CEASEFIRE resolution on April 8, 2024
Resolution calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Israel-Palestine conflict
WHEREAS, The City of East Orange values peace and human dignity for all people; and
WHEREAS, The ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine has resulted in a devastating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with innocent civilians, particularly children, suffering the most; and
WHEREAS, The escalation of violence has led to the catastrophic loss of countless innocent lives and the destruction of vital infrastructure, and
WHEREAS, The people of Gaza are facing a critical shortage of food, medicine and other essential supplies which has led to impending famine; and
WHEREAS, All parties involved in the conflict have a moral obligation to protect civilians and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid; and
WHEREAS, The continued detention of hostages by both parties only serves to prolong the suffering of all involved; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of The City of East Orange;
Calls for an immediate and permanent ceasefire
Calls for unimpeded safe passage for humanitarian aid to reach innocent civilians in Gaza
Demands the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages from both sides
Urges the United States government to use its diplomatic influence to achieve a lasting peace agreement between Israel and Palestine based on a two-state solution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted by the City Clerk to the Essex County Board of Commissioners, the New Jersey State Legislative representatives for East Orange, The New Jersey Federal Congressional Delegation, and the Biden Administration for concurrence.
