Democratic leaders and Precinct committee members from Illinois’ 11th Congressional District sent a letter to Congressman Bill Foster on November 30, 2023, asking Rep. Foster to sign the Ceasefire Now resolution (H. REs. 786)

Whereas Representative Bill Foster has thus far refused to call for a ceasefire in Israel-Palestine, despite countless calls from his constituents to do so,

And whereas a Data for Progress poll conducted between October 18 and 19 shows that the majority of Americans, both Democrat and Republican, think the U.S. government should call for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas:

  • 66% of Americans support a U.S. call for a ceasefire;

  • Democrats were the most in favor at 80%, however,

  • the majority of Republicans and independents also supported a ceasefire at 56% and 57%, respectively,

And whereas Senator Dick Durbin and Representatives Jonathan Jackson (IL-1), Delia Ramirez (IL-3), and Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-4) have already come out in support of a ceasefire,

And whereas on October 27, both the UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly for a ceasefire and the Pope called for a ceasefire.

We, local leaders of the Democratic Party in the 11th Congressional District of Illinois, call on Representative Bill Foster to sign on to the CEASEFIRE NOW resolution introduced by Congresswoman Cori Bush which resolves:

“…That the House of Representatives—

  1. urges the Biden administration to immediately call for and facilitate deescalation and a cease-fire to urgently end the current violence; and

  2. calls upon the Biden administration to promptly send and facilitate the entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza.”
