Kane County Democrats - A Resolution Calling for a Permanent and Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza, Israel, And Palestine

Whereas, the October 7" attack by Hamas on Israel resulted in the most significant loss of Jewish life in this century; and

Whereas, in response, the Israeli government took measures that extend beyond any reasonable definition of self-defense and now constitute war crimes which also resulted inthemost significant loss of Palestinian life in this century; and

Whereas, over 30,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli military action in Gaza since the October 7th attacks carried out by Hamas; and

Whereas, we mourn all innocent civilian lives lost before, on, and since the October 7th; and

Whereas, the Democratic Party stands in opposition to all forms of racism, Islamophobia, anti- Semitism, ethnic cleansing, genocide, colonization, and collective punishment anywhere in the world; and

Whereas, we recognize that neither the extremist government of Benjamin Netanyahu nor the terrorist organization Hamas at all represent the view of either Israeli or Palestinian civilians who are caught in the cross fire between these two extremist organizations; and

Whereas, tens of thousands of lives, the vast majority ofthem children, will be lost ifa ceasefire is not achieved and humanitarian aid is not delivered without delay; and

Whereas, we hold true to the words of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that state, "Injustice anvwhere is a threat tojustice everywhere,"; now therefore

Be it resolved by the Kane County Democrats, that we condemn war crimes committed by Hamas and the government ofIsrael; and

Be it further resolved, that we call for an immediate cease fire in Gaza between the government of Israel and Hamas; and

Finally, be it further resolved, that the Kane County Democrats support the proposed House Resolution 786 in Congress urging an immediate ceasefire, an end to the violence, a release of all hostages and prisoners, and a prompt entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza and other affected areas of the armed conflict; and

Approved by the Executive Board and General Membership of the Kane County Democrats
