Lewiston, Maine passed a CEASEFIRE resolution on April 2, 2024

RESOLUTION CALLING FOR AN IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE IN GAZA AND ISRAEL

WHEREAS all human life is precious, and the City of Lewiston supports the safety, dignity, freedom, and equality of all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lewiston City Council shares humanitarian concerns about the current situation in Gaza and joins people of all faiths, major humanitarian organizations, and dozens of other U.S. city councils in calling on our president and congressional delegation to demand an immediate and permanent bilateral ceasefire to end the current violence in Gaza and Israel, an immediate and unconditional release of all Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners unjustly held, the unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid, the restoration of electricity, water, food, and medical supplies to Gaza, and respect for international law by all parties; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to Representatives Jared Golden and Chellie Pingree, Senators Susan Collins and Angus King, President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, urging them to use their positions and influence to take immediate action to end the violence in Gaza.
