Washington State’s 37th Legislative District Democrats passed a CEASEFIRE resolution on March 11, 2024
Resolution in Support of Ceasefire in Gaza and Against Further Military Escalation
Whereas the ongoing war in Israel/Palestine has caused unimaginable death and suffering;
Whereas the International Court of Justice has determined that there may be grounds for prosecution of Israel for the crime of genocide;
Whereas the unconditional military and diplomatic support provided by the United States government for the Israeli military campaign in Gaza has placed US interests and the lives of US servicemembers in danger and is risking dragging the United States into a regional war;
Whereas the Washington State Democratic Party and the Martin Luther King County Labor Councl have both called for a cease fire in Gaza; Congress members Rashida Tlaib and Corrie Bush have introduced a congressional resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire;
Therefore be it resolved that the 37th LD Democratic Party calls on our federally elected officials to:
Sign on to the Tlaib/Bush letter, if serving in the House of Representatives
Introduce a similar ceasefire resolution if serving in the US Senate
Pledge to vote against any further military aid to Israel while it is engaged in its current indiscriminate targeting of civilians
Publicly oppose any attempt by the United States government to escalate the current conflict into other regions of the Middle East
